Opn.Wyd Diversity Training

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is an Opn.Wyd training or program for you? Below are answers to many of the common questions we get from prospective clients like you. These should help. If the answer to your question(s) is not included, please feel free to contact us so that we can assist you.

Q: What will help me decide if I want to hire Opn.Wyd?

A: After your initial questions are answered and you would like to present the possibility of hiring Opn.Wyd to others within your organization, we will email you a written proposal that will outline a tentative agenda, objectives, and costs for the training/trainings discussed. This proposal will contain the details that customize the training to fit your specific needs.

Q: How long is an Opn.Wyd training?

A: That depends upon what your goals are for the training. We will accommodate your schedule in order to meet your needs. A training can span as little as 90 minutes or as long as 3-full days (20 total hours), depending upon your requirements. No matter how much training you and Opn.Wyd agree upon is necessary, we will always be sure to facilitate the program around your schedule.

Q: How many people (trainees) participate in an Opn.Wyd training?

A: As many as you wish. But remember, all of our trainings are interactive. Therefore, the setting for the training should be in a location where small groups and movement can take place.

Q: How many Opn.Wyd trainers are necessary for each training?

A: Because all of our trainings are interactive, 1 Opn.Wyd trainer for up to 50 adult participants is necessary. A 2nd Opn.Wyd trainer will need to be used beginning with the 51st adult participant. If the training participants are children under the age of 18, we recommend 1 trainer for up to every 30 participants, and having a 2nd trainer made available beginning with the 31st child participant.

Q: What does an Opn.Wyd training look like?

A: Each training is interactive. Usually, participants will work in small groups of 6 or less, do some individual work, and are also involved in large group discussion. Audiovisuals include visual graphics projected on a screen or wall and frequently a video will also be shown. During the small group work, large chart paper and markers are sometimes used. During individual work, participants will frequently write on paper handouts that are copied for each person before the training begins. None of our trainings are invasive, accusatory, polarizing or designed to dispense guilt, as is sometimes the concern with these topics. In other words, we strongly believe that diversity, communication, and team building trainings do not work unless they are designed to unify, not divide.

Q: After we decide we want to hire Opn.Wyd, what do we need to do next?

A: Opn.Wyd will email you a written contract that details date(s); time(s); location(s); training title; cost(s) of your scheduled training(s)/program(s); and the date payment is to be made to Opn.Wyd. A designated agent from your organization will need to review the contract and sign it if what is included in the contract is acceptable to your organization. The signed contract will need to be returned to Opn.Wyd before the day training begins. If a contract is not signed and returned to Opn.Wyd before the day of the training, the training will not take place. Payment is typically expected on the day the initial training is rendered and agreed upon.

Q: What is needed to set-up for an Opn.Wyd training?

A: After a contract is signed and returned to Opn.Wyd, a file of documents will be emailed to you in order to copy as handouts for the training participants. Opn.Wyd will not make copies unless payment is added to costs for copying and transport to the training location. These handouts should be made available for all participants at the training and one packet for each trainer should also be included. In addition to the handouts, the following materials will usually be necessary for the training(s): a projector for PowerPoint presentation and video projection; speakers for videos shown; a laptop computer for flash drive connection; large paper for small group work; magic marker for each small group; enough tables for participants to work in small groups of 6 or less.

Q: Where does an Opn.Wyd training take place?

A: All trainings and programs take place at your location. We will always travel to you.

Q: How much does an Opn.Wyd training cost?

A: We like to keep it simple. We charge by the half-day and the full-day for a base fee. A half-day is a training lasting up to 3 hours. A full-day is a training lasting 3-7 hours. Base costs vary depending upon whether you organization is a business, educational institution or non-profit. Of course, additional trainers incur some additional costs. If you decide to schedule a multi-day training, costs will be reduced by 10-20% per day depending upon how many days are scheduled.

Q: What happens after an Opn.Wyd training is completed?

A: Opn.Wyd will always be available to follow-up in order to answer questions, consult or provide additional trainings and programs if you believe we can assist you again. All of the tools and strategies you have been presented with by us are yours to keep and use.

Q: How much does an Opn.Wyd course for credit cost?

A: The cost of all for-credit courses taught by Opn.Wyd differ based upon the fees established by the organization that sponsors the course. Take a look at the "Calendar for Scheduled Courses for Credit" page on this site to see the name of the "sponsor" then click on the "click here to register" link to see the details of costs, etc.

Q: How much does an Opn.Wyd in-service cost?

A: The cost of an in-service for educators is based upon a half-day ( up to 3 hours) or full-day (3 - 7 hours) rate and the number of participants attending the in-service. Opn.Wyd Diversity Training employs one trainer/facilitator for every 50 participants. Please email or phone us to discuss these specifics for your in-service
